Govt Announces Eid Al-Fitr Public Holiday Dates

As Eid Al Fitr 2026 approaches and Ramadan comes to an end, the Supreme Court has urged Muslims across Saudi Arabia to sight the crescent moon of Shawwal on Wednesday evening, Ramadan 29, 1447 AH, corresponding to March 18, 2026.

The Supreme Court encourages anyone who observes the crescent moon, whether with the naked eye or through binoculars, to report their sighting to the nearest court and document their testimony.

GCC nations announce Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday
Saudi Arabia has already announced the Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday for the private and non-profit sectors. In a statement on the social media platform X, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development revealed that the Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday will begin at the end of the workday on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, corresponding to Ramadan 29, 1447 AH, and will last for four days.

UAE
In the UAE, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced the Eid Al Fitr holiday dates for federal government and private sector employees.

For federal government entities, the holiday will extend from Thursday, March 19, 2026, to Sunday, March 22, 2026. Work will resume across the government on Monday, March 23.

For the UAE private sector, the Eid Al Fitr holiday will start on March 19 and extend to Saturday, March 21, 2026.

FAHR and MoHRE explained that if the holy month of Ramadan completes 30 days, the holiday will be extended to Sunday, March 22, 2026, for all sectors nationwide.

Oman
Oman announced that the Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday for the public and private sectors will begin on Thursday, Ramadan 29, 1447 AH, corresponding to March 19, 2026.

The Eid Al Fitr 2026 holiday in Oman will end on Monday, March 23, 2026, with official working hours resuming on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

The decision includes employees in government administrative units and other legal entities, as well as those working in private sector establishments.

Qatar
Qatar’s Amiri Diwan declared the official Eid Al Fitr 2026 vacation schedule as follows: the Eid break for ministries, state departments, and public entities commences on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, and concludes on Monday, March 23, 2026. Staff are expected to recommence professional duties on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s Ministry of Labor announced that the Eid Al Fitr holiday for employees in private sector establishments subject to the Labor Law will be three days with full pay. The Ministry clarified that if work requirements necessitate an employee working during the Eid holiday, the provisions governing overtime hours and the related allowances stipulated in Article (74) of the Labor Law will apply.
