BREAKING: Peter Obi Set to Dump ADC as New Party Emerges

Fresh political realignments may be underway ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election as sources indicate that former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, may be considering a move to the newly emerging Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) alongside former Bayelsa governor and senator, Seriake Dickson.
According to insiders familiar with the discussions, the move is part of a broader strategy to build a formidable opposition coalition capable of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.
Sources within the emerging political bloc revealed that talks are ongoing among key opposition figures about using the NDC as a fresh platform to consolidate anti-APC forces and avoid internal disputes that have plagued existing coalitions.
The development follows mounting speculation surrounding Senator Dickson’s next political move after he signaled plans to make a major announcement regarding his political future. Political observers say the Bayelsa West senator is widely expected to align with the newly formed party in what could trigger wider defections from established opposition parties.
Insiders also say the proposed alliance is counting heavily on the loyalty of Obi’s supporters—popularly known as the “Obidient Movement.” The movement played a major role in mobilizing voters during the 2023 election and could significantly strengthen any opposition platform he joins.
A source involved in the negotiations said the expectation is that many of Obi’s supporters would follow him into the new political structure if he formally aligns with the NDC.
“Once Obi makes a move, the Obidient base will likely move with him. The plan is to consolidate the southern opposition vote while building strong northern alliances,” the source said.
As part of the emerging strategy, the group is reportedly considering a presidential ticket that would balance regional interests. While Obi is said to be a leading figure in the discussions, insiders say the alliance is already searching for a credible northern politician to occupy the vice-presidential slot.
Political analysts say such a north-south balance could be crucial in building a nationwide coalition capable of confronting the APC in the next election cycle.
Nigeria’s political landscape has already entered early maneuvering for the 2027 polls, with opposition leaders exploring alliances and new party platforms to challenge the incumbent administration. Analysts say a united opposition bloc remains one of the few viable paths to defeating an incumbent government in the country’s electoral system.
If confirmed, the potential alliance involving Obi and Dickson under the NDC banner could significantly reshape opposition politics and intensify preparations for what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 presidential race.
