BOMBSHELL: Analyst Reveals Days El-Rufai May Remain in Detention

A political analyst has projected that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, may remain in detention for an extended period, with indications that he could spend the entire Ramadan fast in custody before being formally charged in court.

The analyst, Kelvin Ocholi, who spoke during a political gathering in Abuja, argued that the timing and nature of the ongoing investigation suggest that legal proceedings may not commence immediately.

According to him, procedural processes and internal reviews could delay arraignment, potentially stretching through the Ramadan period.

“From what we are seeing, he may likely remain in detention throughout Ramadan before any formal charge is filed,” the analyst said, noting that high-profile investigations often involve multiple agencies and layers of documentation before prosecution.

While authorities have yet to publicly confirm the duration of detention or specific charges, sources familiar with the matter say investigators are scrutinizing several financial and administrative decisions taken during his tenure as governor.

Legal experts, however, caution that prolonged detention without formal charges could raise constitutional concerns.

Under Nigerian law, suspects are expected to be charged within a reasonable timeframe or granted bail, except where a court order permits otherwise.

Supporters of the former governor have described the development as politically motivated, while critics insist that due process must be allowed to take its course.

As Ramadan approaches, attention remains focused on whether the former governor will secure bail or remain in custody pending formal arraignment. Neither his legal team nor security agencies have issued an official statement on the projected timeline at the time of filing this report.
