Fresh Twist: Tinubu Given New Terms to Free Nnamdi Kanu

Senior lawyer Prince Uche Darlington Okeke has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider a political solution for the jailed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to facilitate his release and restore peace in the region.
Speaking to journalists at Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area during the funeral of Sir Ebenezer Nonso Okeke KSC, a retired Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) director, Prince Okeke described Kanu’s detention as a matter that warrants political consideration.
“I was surprised that barely four months into his life imprisonment, he is still languishing in jail for advocating for the restoration of Biafra,” Okeke said. “This case deserves a political solution by all standards. President Tinubu has the opportunity to apply such a solution without further delay and create lasting peace in this part of the country.”
On national politics, the lawyer suggested that President Tinubu should be allowed to seek a second term in the 2027 presidential election to complete ongoing projects from his first tenure.
Regarding the prospects of Peter Obi, 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party and current aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Okeke said political circumstances may not favour him this time, noting that “election is not a social media affair.”
