Peter Obi is a Problematic Politician - Commissioner Speaks amid Attack in Benin

The Edo State Government has addressed the growing political tension in Benin City, which has escalated following an attack on supporters of the African Democratic Congress Party during a gathering in the state capital.

During a live interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, Kassim Afegbua, the Edo State Commissioner for Information, expressed concern about former presidential candidate Peter Obi’s influence on the political climate in the state.

Afegbua stated that Obi’s involvement with any political party tends to result in internal conflicts and public disturbances.

“Peter Obi is a problem to the politics of Edo because any party he belongs to is crisis, crisis, crisis,” says Kassim Afegbua, Edo State Commissioner for Information.

The commissioner made the statement while responding to questions about the violence that reportedly erupted during a ADC-related activity in Benin City earlier in the week.

He alleged that the gathering was not properly coordinated with security agencies and accused the party of attempting to provoke unrest under the guise of political mobilization.

According to Afegbua, Edo State remains committed to maintaining peace and will not tolerate actions capable of disrupting public order.

He further argued that political movements associated with Obi have repeatedly generated tension in several states, adding that Edo would not become a theatre for political confrontation ahead of future elections.

The commissioner also dismissed claims that the attack was sponsored by the state government. He said security agencies are already investigating the incident and assured residents that anyone found responsible would be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Obidients have condemned the attack and accused the state government of intimidation. They insisted that the gathering was peaceful before it was disrupted by unidentified individuals.
