Anger, Tension as Fubara Set to Dump APC

There are growing indications that Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, may be considering a possible exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC) following deepening political tensions with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Multiple party sources disclosed that the rift between Governor Fubara and Wike has continued to widen, largely over control of the state’s political structure and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The situation is said to have been further complicated by allegations that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is backing Wike in the ongoing political struggle, a development that has unsettled loyalists of the Rivers governor within the ruling party.
According to insiders, Governor Fubara has become increasingly concerned about his political future in the APC, especially amid fears that he may not receive the necessary support to secure the party’s ticket ahead of the next election cycle.
A senior party source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “The governor is under pressure. If he feels sidelined in the APC, he will not hesitate to explore other platforms where he can protect his political ambition.”
Findings revealed that two major opposition parties have already opened channels of communication with the governor’s camp and are reportedly ready to offer him a platform should he decide to leave the ruling party.
Although the identities of the parties were not officially confirmed, political observers believe they are among the leading opposition platforms positioning themselves for the 2027 contest.
Despite the growing speculation, Governor Fubara has not made any public statement regarding his political future. His aides have also declined to comment on the matter, insisting that the governor remains focused on governance and development in Rivers State.
However, analysts warn that the unfolding crisis could have serious implications for the political stability of the state and the strength of the APC in the South-South region.
“With the influence of both Fubara and Wike, any major realignment will reshape Rivers politics,” a political analyst noted.
As the countdown to 2027 intensifies, all eyes are now on Governor Fubara’s next move, which could determine the balance of power in Rivers State and beyond.
