BUA Cement Plc has officially agreed with CBMI, a Chinese firm, to establish a new cement production line capable of producing 3 million metric tons annually at its Sokoto plant. This project, which is valued at approximately $240 million, will include the installation of a new cement line, a power plant, and associated infrastructure.

Once completed, this initiative is expected to elevate BUA Cement’s total installed production capacity to 20 million metric tons per annum. This agreement further solidifies BUA Cement’s enduring collaboration with CBMI, a partnership that has lasted over 15 years.

Throughout this time, CBMI has successfully implemented cement production lines with a combined capacity of 14 million metric tons at BUA Cement’s Obu plant in Edo State and its existing operations in Sokoto.

BUA Cement said the Sokoto plant remains strategically important as the only cement manufacturing facility in Nigeria’s North-West region, with proximity to several landlocked neighbouring countries, positioning it to serve both domestic and regional markets.

In addition, the company disclosed that its 700-ton-per-day mini liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Kogi State, scheduled for completion later in 2026, is expected to supply energy to the new Sokoto line and existing facilities, thereby improving efficiency and reducing emissions.

Construction of the new Sokoto Line 6 is expected to be completed within 20 months. BUA Cement said the project aligns with its expansion strategy and Nigeria’s broader industrial and infrastructure development goals.
