Rivers Crisis: No Governor Has Control Over APC – Party National Chair

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has asserted that the party operates independently and is not under the influence of any individual governor.

He emphasized that the decision-making process within the party is primarily conducted at the national level, rather than being dictated by state governors.

This statement was made during his appearance on the @Sunset program on Jay FM, based in Jos, Plateau State.

“Across the country, nobody can take any section of the party. For anything you are going to do at the state level, it is planned at the National level. It is not planned at the state level. This is the APC structure and that is how we work.

“We work with structure. We don’t work with sentiments and emotions. Nobody has control over the party, even myself. No local government chairman has control over APC. No governor has control over APC. No senator or individual has control over APC, “ the chairman said.

Nentawe highlighted that the decision to refrain from establishing a board of trustees within the party was made to prevent unnecessary conflicts.

He explained that this is the reason the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not have a formal board of trustees.

Instead, he stated that the APC is fundamentally owned by the people, with the members themselves serving as the true trustees of the party.

In a recent statement, the party chairman highlighted a key difference in the internal structure of his political party compared to others.

He noted that, unlike many political parties that have a board of trustees or a centralized authority overseeing operations, he operates independently without such supervision. This independence allows him to manage the party autonomously.

His comments come at a time when political tensions are escalating between him and the current Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.
