Fubara's impeachment not a coup, angry Wike insists

The political feud between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has taken a dramatic turn following the arrest of a Port Harcourt–based medical doctor and pastor over an alleged plot to assassinate the former Rivers governor, according to Naija News.

Security sources told SaharaReporters that operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) arrested Dr Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, a medical doctor and founder of Life Forte Chapel Church in Port Harcourt.

According to the sources, Gbeneol’s arrest followed the interception of a telephone conversation between him and the immediate past Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo.

In the intercepted call, the suspects allegedly discussed plans to bring in Israeli nationals to carry out the assassination of Wike. The conversation reportedly ended with plans to approach Governor Fubara for funding to execute the operation.

A senior security source described the content of the call as “a grave national security threat,” adding that it triggered the immediate intervention of the IRT.

Following the intelligence report, operatives of the IRT, led by Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, moved in and arrested Gbeneol. He has reportedly been in detention for about two weeks.

Confirming the development, the Nigeria Police said the suspect is currently in custody.

“He is in our custody. Investigation is ongoing,” the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, told SaharaReporters on Monday.
