Industrial Waste Management: OGWAMA, Stakeholders Move To Bridge Gaps Between Policy Formulation and Practical Implementation

The Ogun State Waste Management Agency (OGWAMA) is organizing a two-day workshop as part of its numerous strategic intervention in the quest for effective waste management in Ogun State as envisioned by Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of the state.

This initiative, according to Hon. Abayomi Semako Hunye (SA/CEO, OGWAMA), is designed to address the significant gaps between policy formulation and practical implementation by bringing together three core stakeholder groups: Industry Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officers, recyclable waste vendors, and Private Waste Managers (PSPs).

Hunye added that the workshop will servel as a critical platform to enhance cooperation, clarify regulatory expectations, and equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to transition toward more sustainable and profitable waste management practices.

“The theme of the workshop is: “Synergy, Standards, and Solutions: Forging a New Era of Industrial Waste Management in Ogun State.” This theme moves beyond a crisis-oriented approach by focusing on collaborative governance, clear regulatory frameworks, and practical, innovative solutions.

“It will be held on Wednesday, 19th and Thursday, 20th November, 2025 at the Marque Hall, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta,” he added.

A release made available to the press by the OGWAMA further explained the motive and importance of the workshop. Below is the full text; “In response to this pressing reality, the Ogun State Waste Management Agency (OGWAMA) is organizing a two-day workshop as a strategic intervention.

“This initiative is designed to address the significant gaps between policy formulation and practical implementation by bringing together three core stakeholder groups: Industry Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officers, recyclable waste vendors, and Private Waste Managers (PSPs).

“The workshop serves as a critical platform to enhance cooperation, clarify regulatory expectations, and equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to transition toward more sustainable and profitable waste management practices.

Workshop Theme, Objectives and Date
The proposed theme for the workshop is: “Synergy, Standards, and Solutions: Forging a New Era of Industrial Waste Management in Ogun State.

“This theme moves beyond a crisis-oriented approach by focusing on collaborative governance, clear regulatory frameworks, and practical, innovative solutions. The core objectives of the workshop are:

“Enhance regulatory compliance by providing a comprehensive overview of existing environmental laws and OGWAMA’s enforcement mandates. Promote innovative waste-to-wealth models, including waste-to-energy (WtE) and advanced recycling technologies, through the presentation of successful case studies.
Strengthen inter-stakeholder collaboration by creating a formal and transparent forum for OGWAMA, industries, vendors, and private managers to build synergies and solve problems collectively.

“Date: Wednesday, 19th and Thursday, 20th November, 2025
Venue: Marque Hall, Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta,” the release read.
