The Government of the United Kingdom has announced comprehensive new restrictions on overseas recruitment, prohibiting foreign workers from filling more than 100 occupations as part of its initiative to reduce net migration.

The Home Office communicated this policy change in a statement on X Saturday morning, emphasizing its commitment to creating opportunities for British workers while reforming the visa system.

“Reducing net migration necessitates addressing the fundamental issues,” the statement asserted.

“More than 100 occupations are now ineligible for overseas recruitment, thereby increasing job opportunities for British workers. A fairer, skills-oriented system is now being developed.”

This initiative represents a recent action taken by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who assumed office on July 5, 2024, following a significant electoral victory for the Labour Party, succeeding Rishi Sunak.

The Home Office has yet to publish the complete list of restricted occupations; however, reports from PUNCH Online indicate ongoing developments.
