‘We shall see in 2027’: Angry Nigerians react as FG increases passport by 100%

Frustration has erupted among Nigerians on social media following the announcement from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) regarding a significant increase in passport fees.
This revision of rates is set to take effect on September 1, 2025, stirring widespread anger and dissatisfaction among citizens already grappling with a challenging cost of living.
Nigerians have expressed their outrage, criticizing the government for what they perceive as a callous disregard for the hardships faced by ordinary people. Click link to continue reading the article.

The new fees, as detailed in a statement from the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, will apply exclusively to passport applications processed within Nigeria, amplifying concerns about the government’s sensitivity to economic realities.
Under the forthcoming fee structure, the cost of a 32-page standard passport, which offers a five-year validity, will skyrocket to N100,000. Meanwhile, the price for the more spacious 64-page passport, with a ten-year validity, will increase to N200,000. This move marks a sharp rise from the previous fee of N50,000 for the 32-page passport, which had only recently increased from N35,000. Likewise, the 64-page version, previously set at a cost of N70,000, will also see a hike. As these changes loom, many citizens are left questioning the rationale behind such steep increments, especially in these economically strained times.
Below are some of the reactions from Nigerians.
