2027: ‘We’re ready to rescue Nigeria’ – 50,000 APC members join ADC in Sokoto

More than 50,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto have officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
This significant political shift occurred in Gada Local Government Area, spearheaded by Abubakar Gada, a former senator. Gada characterized the defection as a pivotal moment in the endeavor to “liberate the state and the nation” from enduring hardships.
In an address to a large assembly of supporters, Gada stated that this transition reflects a growing dissatisfaction with the APC-led administration, particularly among northern communities grappling with issues such as insecurity, poverty, and unemployment.
He emphasized, “Every citizen possesses the right to regard their security as assured. In our context, this is not the case. We must unite in our efforts to establish security that is accessible to all.”
Gada further indicated that enhancing security and revitalizing the economy will be paramount on the coalition’s agenda, highlighting how persistent banditry has severely impacted agricultural productivity in Sokoto, consequently driving many farmers into poverty.
Addressing concerns regarding the ruling party’s potential use of state resources to maintain power in the upcoming 2027 elections, Gada asserted, “Power is ultimately bestowed by God, not by man.”
He noted that historical precedents exist in which governments, despite possessing substantial state resources, have failed to secure electoral victory. “When citizens collectively commit to altering their circumstances, no force can impede them,” he stated.
In response to rumors regarding the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged endorsement of the coalition, Gada dismissed such claims as “a hoax.” He expressed, “Even if he were alive, no one would depend on him to rectify the country’s challenges, given that he was unable to effectuate meaningful change during his presidency. He contributed to the tragic conditions in which we now find ourselves.”
Gada called upon Nigerians to take ownership of their futures, emphasizing that the movement’s objective is to drive political transformation from the grassroots level to the presidential office by 2027. He articulated, “The increasing trend of defections to the ADC demonstrates that Nigerians are prepared to pursue a new trajectory, grounded in peace, security, and widespread prosperity.”
He concluded, “We cannot and will not abandon the pursuit of collective salvation. Together, we can restore Nigeria’s integrity and prosperity, and with resolute determination, this will undoubtedly materialize.”
