Bishop David Oyedepo, the prominent founder of the Living Faith Church, has expressed strong opposition to the recent demands made by certain Muslim groups regarding the wearing of the hijab by female students in schools operated by his church.

During a passionate sermon delivered to his congregation, Oyedepo drew a vivid analogy, suggesting that these demands were akin to “a tenant dictating to a landlord.”
He firmly argued that such requests overstep reasonable boundaries and undermine the foundational values of these mission-owned institutions.

In his address, Oyedepo underscored the vital importance of maintaining the core principles of mission schools, emphasizing that they were established with a specific ethos and mission in mind.

Rev. Isaac Omolehin, a prominent clergyman from Kwara State, has raised significant concerns regarding the current state of the Nigerian church, particularly in relation to the alarming financial disparities observed within it.

During a recent gathering with fellow pastors, he referenced a striking report published by the World Council of Churches, which sheds light on the unsettling contrast between the considerable personal wealth amassed by some pastors and the often struggling financial situations of their congregations.

In his address, Rev. Omolehin pointed out that out of the ten wealthiest pastors globally, an astonishing five hail from Nigeria. This statistic not only reflects the lucrative nature of religious leadership in the country but also raises poignant questions about the priorities and responsibilities of these pastors towards their flocks. He urged his fellow clergy to reflect on this issue, emphasizing the importance of aligning their wealth with the needs and welfare of their congregations, many of whom face economic hardships. The call for accountability and transparency in church finances echoed throughout the meeting, highlighting the urgent need for a more equitable distribution of resources within the church community.

“Is it not scary that the World Council of Churches released papers about the state of the Nigerian church — that out of the 10 richest pastors in the world, five of them are Nigerians, but out of the 10 richest churches in the world, there’s no Nigerian church?” Rev. Omoleyin said in his message to pastors. “It’s worrisome, it calls for concern.”

The clergyman’s remarks come amid ongoing debates about accountability, transparency, and the role of wealth in ministry across Nigeria’s religious landscape.

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has encouraged his supporters to lend their support to the candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming by-elections scheduled to occur in various states across the country.

Obi emphasised that his supporters should refrain from voting for the Labour Party, as it currently lacks recognized candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to ongoing internal disputes.

According to reports from DAILY POST, the elections are set to take place on August 16, 2025, across 16 states, with two senatorial, five Federal House of Representatives, and nine State Assembly seats available for election.

However, Obi advised his supporters, saying, “Kindly note that because the Labour Party has no recognised candidates by INEC due to the internal crisis.

“I humbly urge every member of Obidient and COPDEM families to go out and vote for the coalition political party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), in their respective states.”

Daniel Bwala, who serves as the Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, has made a bold statement regarding the political prospects of Peter Obi ahead 2027.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s current affairs program on Wednesday, Bwala suggested that President Tinubu could secure as many as two million votes from the region—an estimate he asserted would be at least four to six times greater than the votes attained in the 2023 election.

In the 2023 presidential election, President Tinubu received only 127,370 votes from the South-East.

“This situation is difficult to characterize, but let me address it regionally. With regard to the South-East, I assure you that President Bola Tinubu will exceed four times, if not six times, the number of votes he previously received. The Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party have indicated that they do not intend to replace their candidates or party structures in the 2027 general election.

When questioned about how the president would secure the projected two million votes if the Labour Party’s Peter Obi is also a candidate, Bwala contended that the region possesses a substantial voting population and claimed that Obi’s influence has diminished.

He said, “There are lots of votes in the region,” he said, adding that Obi would only serve as a Director-General in the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“As I tell you, he’s not going to get a ticket in any of the parties (ADC, PDP, LP). That is Peter Obi. The problem now is that he might not even get the vice presidential ticket from the way things are going, but whether Peter Obi is a ticket bearer of the party, he has lost more than 50% of his votes because they were not votes that were built on agenda and politics. They were built on rhetoric and division, and Nigerian people’s eyes are open.”

He also argued that the recent defections of southern governors to the APC and the endorsement by governors in opposition parties would push the president’s numbers and popularity in the south-east ahead of the forthcoming election. click here to see video

The Federal Government has authorized the establishment of nine new private universities across Nigeria, thereby elevating the total number of tertiary institutions under private ownership in the country.

The Minister of Education, Alausa, disclosed that the Tinubu administration inherited 551 pending applications for the establishment of tertiary institutions. These applications underwent a rigorous review process, leading to a reduction to 79 active cases. The approval of nine institutions on Wednesday addressed a backlog that had, in some instances, persisted for over six years.

Alausa noted that delays in approvals were attributable to inefficiencies within the National Universities Commission (NUC). However, the implementation of reforms aimed at streamlining these processes has resulted in today’s approvals, effectively clearing this accumulated backlog.

The minister emphasized that many of the newly approved institutions had already established campuses and made significant financial investments, amounting to billions of naira, while awaiting accreditation. A moratorium has now been instituted on new applications for private universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, with the exception of those that comply with the newly established operational standards.

Stakeholders within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reportedly decided to postpone discussions aimed at challenging and defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This development follows the interrogation and subsequent detention of former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
