Fire wreaks havoc at Lagos govt staff quarters, damages part of building

A fire severely damaged part of a three-storey building at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, near Wempco Road in Ogba.
Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.
Oke-Osanyintolu reported that LASEMA received emergency calls on the 767 and 112 lines around 2:39 a.m. and promptly deployed its response team from the Alausa command and control center.
“Upon immediate response, it was confirmed that one of the two-bedrooms in Flat 5, of Block 21, a two-winged, three-story building of 16 two-bedroom flats, was engulfed.
“Investigation conducted by the agency’s response team revealed that the fire originated from the children’s room as a result of a power surge.
“The prompt and coordinated efforts of the agency, Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, ensured the fire was contained,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He said that there was no injury or life lost, however, the fire completely consumed the children’s bedroom, resulting in loss of properties worth millions of naira.
“We also enlightened the occupants on the proper use of electrical appliances,” he said.
