The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf has appointed three second-class Emirs for the Rano, Gaya and Karaye emirates.

The governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature disclosed this in an early Wednesday statement.

According to the statement, the new emirates will serve as second-class emirates with Kano as first-class emirate.

The newly appointed Emirs are: Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammad Mahraz Karaye (who until his appointment was the District Head of Rogo); Emir of Rano, Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar (who until his appointment, was the District Head of Bunkure), and Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya (who was the emir of the defunct Gaya emirate).

The appointments are with immediate effect.

The statement quoted Governor Yusuf as congratulating the newly-appointed Emirs, enjoining them to be custodians of culture, peace and unity of the people in their respective emirates.

The governor on Tuesday, July 16 signed into law the Kano State Emirate Council Establishment Bill 2024 which was passed by the Kano State House of Assembly same day.

At the signing, Governor Yusuf emphasised the importance of the new law in sustaining the rich cultural values and norms of the people of the state.

He noted that the law would bridge the gap between the people at the grassroots and the government.

The law created three second-class emirates in the state with Rano covering only Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure Local Government areas, Gaya covering only Gaya, Ajingi and Albasu Local Government areas, and Karaye covering only Karaye and Rogo Local Government areas.
