14 years after, Tinubu commissions VP’s official residence

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday inaugurated the official residence of the Vice President, which has suffered poor funding since 2010.
Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering on the promises made to Nigerians rather than dwell on the failures of past administrations.
Commissioning the building, President Tinubu pledged to always ensure that the nation’s resources are prudently utilised.
The President believes that abandoning projects after spending a substantial amount of money is equal to wasting taxpayers’ money.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian government to the principles of accountability, transparency and good governance.
Tinubu used the occasion to assure Nigerians that the government will continue to prioritise their wellbeing as well as build a nation they can all be proud of.
Represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shetttima, he said: “As we commission this state-of-the-art edifice, the official residence of the Vice President of Nigeria, we are fulfilling a long standing commitment and unwavering dedication to accountability, transparency and efficient utilization of resources for the betterment of our nation.
“I hold a very strong opinion that abandoning projects after substantial expenditure have been incurred is inherently wasteful, and it is in the best interest of government and the public to see them to completion.
“Rather than dwell on past shortcomings, we have chosen to seize this opportunity to demonstrate our resolve to confront obstacles head-on and deliver on the promises made to the Nigerian people in line with our Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Tinubu also thanked the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, and the FCT Administration for making the completion of the VP official residence a reality within his one year in office.
Speaking in his own capacity, Kashim Shettima, who could not hide his joy, noted that the completion of the project symbolises the respect that Mr. President has for the office of Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and his readiness to provide the needed tools in laying a solid foundation for efficient governance.
“The Office of the Vice President is the most derided, the most sensitive of positions. But we have to give it to Mr. President (Tinubu); he treats me with absolute decorum, respect and inclusivity.
“We have seen how Vice Presidents were treated in the past; this present dispensation is a different ball game,” Shettima said.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, disclosed that the Vice President’s official residence was awarded 14 years ago for N7 billion, abandoned in 2015 but later reviewed by the Tinubu administration in January 2024, and today it is completed with world class facilities.
According to Wike, environment drives productivity. Hence the FCT Administration, with the approval of Mr. President, committed required resources to complete the project.
“When we came on board 21st of August 2023, if you were here, it was bush.
“I went to Mr. President and said how can we allow the Vice President’s residence to get this bad?
“Look at, criminals have taken over the place, we are talking about fighting criminals, and Mr. President said go and make sure that the project is completed,
“Mr. President has come and within a year, he made it a reality.
“May God continue to bless Bola Ahmed Tinubu for knowing that if you don’t stay in a good environment, you can’t put in your best.
“Environment affects productivity. Environment affects efficiency. By the time you go in here and see what is provided, I am sure, Mr. Vice President will be more encouraged to do more work than (he does) where he stays now, ” Wike said
The FCT Minister also used the occasion to caution the company in charge of streetlights at night to wake up to their responsibility, noting that the FCTA will not tolerate seeing the city in gross darkness.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary FCDA, Shehu Ahmad Hadi, who noted that the building was one of the projects that were abandoned, explained that the scope of work in the building involves 15 units of blocks, place of worship (mosque and chapel), standby power house and water treatment, among others.
“The main building, a provision for an office for the second lady and the residence for the ADC and CSO, places of worship (a mosque and a chapel) as well as other domestic staff quarters.
“There are also utility facilities for standby power houses, water treatment and, of course, garages for car parking for the public and the VIPs.
“There are also provisions for recreational facilities”.
The new residence of the Vice President located adjacent the office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, has an office for the Wife of the Vice President, a mosque, chapel and recreational facilities, among others.
The Vice President’s official residence is the 8th FCT critical project inaugurated by President Tinubu to mark his one year in office.

REVELEAD: Why Pastor Kumuyi Is Changing Some Deeper Life Principles

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi, has announced a series of changes to some of the long-standing rules of the church, saying many of them were never scriptural but were introduced for administrative purposes.
Pastor Kumuyi, widely regarded as one of the most influential church leaders in the world, is the founder of Deeper Life Bible Church, which began in 1973 as a small Bible study group in Lagos.
Over the decades, the ministry has grown into a global Christian movement. The Lagos headquarters alone attracts over 120,000 worshippers weekly, placing it among the five largest single congregations worldwide. In Nigeria, the church boasts more than one million members with over 5,000 branches, and a further 3,000 branches spread across Africa, Europe, and North America.
Speaking at the church 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, Pastor Kumuyi announced modifications to certain marriage rules that had long been regarded as doctrinal. He clarified that many of these practices were never rooted in the Bible but were merely administrative guidelines designed to provide structure.
One of the major changes is the cancellation of the restriction that prevented a lady from visiting her suitor before marriage. According to Kumuyi, intending couples may now visit each other during courtship, provided they are accompanied by an elder. The long-held six-month mandatory courtship period has also been scrapped. “We just felt you need some time to know one another. And then we said one month will be too short, two months too short. So, why not six months? But it is not from the Bible,” he said.
He stated the importance of Christians being able to distinguish between God’s commandments and church traditions.“As a Christian, you need to be so mature that you know the difference between the law of God and the principles in the church. Six months is all right, but it’s not something inflexible. If we change it to three months, we’re not changing the Bible, because six months is not in the Bible,”
Pastor Kumuyi also clarified the role of marriage committees in Deeper Life, noting that their purpose was to provide guidance and not to exercise authority beyond what is written in the scriptures. “There’s no marriage committee in the New Testament. We created it to help you, not because we can give you a chapter and a verse. It is church administration,” he stated.
These changes are seen by people as another step in the ongoing review of church practices that many members and outsiders have often considered too strict. Since founding the church has faced both admiration and criticism for its distinct doctrines. Some of its earlier beliefs and practices have either been misinterpreted or have since evolved:
Technology Use: The church, which once opposed television and modern gadgets, now embraces media and social platforms for evangelism.read the gospel.
Marriage Rules: Inter-church marriages are now accepted, provided the partner is from a Bible-believing church with a holy standard of living.
Dress Code: The church still emphasizes modesty, but women no longer have to tie scarves at all times, and men are not strictly bound to suits.
Medical Treatment: While rumors once suggested Deeper Life discouraged hospital visits, today members are encouraged to seek proper medical care when needed.
Christmas Celebrations: Although many members spend Christmas at church camps, the church has clarified that celebrating Christmas is not forbidden.
Other misconceptions, such as supposed food restrictions or claims that Pastor Kumuyi had relocated to the UK, have also been dispelled.
Through these reforms, Pastor Kumuyi is reinforcing his long-held belief that while order is necessary in the church, it must never be mistaken for scripture.
