Sanusi receives reinstatement letter, becomes the 16th Emir Of Kano
Lamido officially received his letter of appointment as the 16th Emir of Kano from Governor Abba Yusuf during a ceremony at the Kano State Government House.
The event, held in the Art Chamber, was attended by traditional rulers, kingmakers, and other dignitaries. Governor Yusuf reinstated Sanusi following the signing of the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law. This move comes four years after Sanusi was deposed by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
The new law repeals the Kano State Emirates Council Law of 2019, effectively dissolving the emirate councils established by Ganduje. In December 2019, Ganduje’s administration had used the previous law to divide the Kano Emirate into five parts, creating the emirates of Karaye, Bichi, Rano, and Gaya, alongside Kano. Sanusi II was removed from his position on March 9, 2020.
Sanusi Lamido, who previously served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, now returns to his royal role as Emir Sanusi II.
