EXCLUSIVES: Aregbesola vows never to prostrate for Tinubu

Published

'Nigeria is in distress' - I'll unseat Tinubu in 2027, says Aregbesola

It is not just a political tug-of-war but chamber of egotism where former Osun state governor Rauf Aregbesola flaunts the confidence of a ripping seed in the political school of thoughts.

A move by some political influencer in presidency to settle the matter between the political master and his apprentice, in the names of President Bola Tinubu and Rauf Aregbesola but all efforts to end the growing battle proved abortive by nobody but the egoistic  former minister who believed he is more of a godfather than prostrating to the Jagaban Bogul!

A source told The PAPERS that he was asked to prostrate for the President the moment he saw him after having access to the president in Aso Villa.

“He was in Aso Villa with some politicians and he was told to prostrate for the president while others will join him to apologise to the president and settle the matter but he said never he can’t prostrate for Tinubu and those people were stunned and left him alone in the battle. Tinubu saw Aregbesola and greeted him casually and nobody could speak for him and all access was blocked immediately.

In the latest development, Aregbesola felt has been sidelined in the ruling party feels it is important for his political career to dump APC.

Recently, All Progressives Congress in Osun, Prince Adebayo Adeleke, affectionately known as Banik, who came hard on the former governor of the state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, for making himself instrument of balkanisation and destruction in the progressive fold, stating that the former governor could no longer be regarded as a governor produced by the party.

Sources within Aregbesola camp told The PAPERS that the former Osun state governor will announce a new party for defection before July as many factors in APC frustrating reconciliation.

“Aregbesola is no longer in APC, I can tell you that. But we are waiting for official announcement of the next party for defection,” said our source.

“For now, there are possibilities of joining  SDP or AD, but only a matter of time, but he’s not joining PDP as speculation rises.”

Banik expressed this opinion recently at the senatorial meeting of the party in Osun Central held at the party secretariat, Ogo-oluwa, Osogbo, when making clarification to some statements attributed to the National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru ( SRJ).

According to Banik, “Statement made by our National Secretary, Senator Basiru Ajibola SRJ was poorly reported. He didn’t say Ogbeni Aregbesola had ceased to be a former governor of the state. What he said was Ogbeni had by his past anti-party activities and continued combative attitude to the party cut himself away from us, hence it is safe to say he is no longer part of the party. We in APC know Aregbesola is no longer our member.”

The former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs recalled how Aregbesola mobilized his lieutenants and supporters to work against the party during presidential, governorship and other elections, as well as how he mocked the party for its electoral misfortune at the Supreme Court.

Banik said a committed member of the party, particularly a former governor and minister should not have engaged in brazen anti-party activities as Aregbesola did, advising the Ijesa-born politician to seek political truce with his leader and benefactor, President Bola Tinubu, if he is still interested to be accorded the deserved respects within the party.

Fubara’s Return: ‘This Is Very Dangerous’ – Anxiety Mounts Over Emergency Lift

Published

on

jubilant, as reported by BusinessHallmark. What should have been a restoration of democracy has, instead, deepened anxiety. Most residents, analysts say, see Gov. Fubara’s comeback not as a rebirth of hope, but as the reinstallation of a figurehead. In their telling, President Bola Tinubu and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, have used the emergency period to capture Rivers State’s political machinery, leaving Fubara naked, stripped of real authority. The real winners, they argue, are in Abuja. Tinubu, they say, has secured a crucial oil-rich state in his column ahead of his 2027 re-election bid. Wike, his ally-turned-power broker, retains a firm grip on Rivers while enjoying relevance in the federal cabinet. The casualties? Fubara himself, the people of Rivers, and Nigeria’s already fragile democracy. When President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in March and suspended Fubara, citing security concerns, many lawyers and political observers called the move unconstitutional. The National Assembly, nonetheless, waved the objections aside, approving it with a voice vote. Yet, on the ground in Rivers, the sense was very different. The state was calm when the emergency was announced, critics insisted, and if anything, the imposition of direct rule destabilised the atmosphere. Chetam Nwala, a Port Harcourt based lawyer and activist, argued that the measure was “long overdue,” but had little to do with public safety. “It was basically a state capture, not to bring back security,” Nwala said. “The governor is coming back to do the president’s bidding, not that of Rivers people.” Nwala told News Central, “I am happy that we are returning to constitutional democracy, unlike what we have had in the state, but I am not excited because I know we are returning back to Egypt. Everything that was done in Rivers State was simply done for Tinubu’s 2027 election. It was basically a state capture, not to bring back security to Rivers State. The president has successfully hoodwinked the governor and the governor is coming back to do his bidding, not the bidding of the people of Rivers State. “I believe that the governor should be independent to be able to lead Rivers people based on the interest of the people, and not based on the interest of anybody. But we know that once the governor returns it will be about pushing the interest of the president for 2027, because that is exactly what the president wants. It is very unfortunate that the president has destroyed the economy of Rivers State and has given us a bad reputation before the international community just because of his 2027 ambition.” Theophilus Alaye, president of the Ijaw Youth Council, warned that the precedent set is even more dangerous than the politics behind it. “When the emergency was declared, the state was largely calm. It is the emergency that threw us into chaos,” Alaye said. “Today it is Rivers. Tomorrow it could be Lagos or Kano. A serving president can now suspend governors, who don’t support his re-election. That is how democracy collapses.” He emphasised that, “This is a very dangerous precedent that the president has set, and the Supreme Court has refused to rule on it. What they have done in Rivers State may not stay a Rivers issue alone. I keep saying that on that the president is going to succeed in suspending five to 10 governors that are not doing his bidding. “That is why we were expecting the Supreme Court to look into the decision. The PDP governors filled a case to determine whether the president has the power to suspend the governor of a state, but the Supreme Court sat on that petition.” Chief Peter Ameh, national secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), was even blunter: “The governor has surrendered to federal might. There’s nothing he’s coming to do other than sign checks and pay salaries. Unfortunately, citizens have been so pauperised that they cannot rise against this lawlessness.” The Ibas interlude For six months, Rivers has been administered not by its elected government, but by a sole administrator: Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ekwe Ibas. His tenure has been marked by bold, often controversial actions. From inaugurating a new Pensions Board to appointing governing councils for four state-owned universities, and the conduct of a local government election termed illegal by lawyers, many say Ibas acted like a long-term governor, rather than a caretaker. His claim to have saved N5 billion through a payroll verification exercise that uncovered 12,000 “ghost workers” was loudly trumpeted. But civil service unions quickly countered that genuine staff had been wrongly struck off and accused him of seeking to ingratiate himself with the presidency to justify prolonging emergency rule. A rights activist called the exercise “a ploy to discredit Governor Fubara.” Online, anger boiled over. Jahmal of Port Harcourt (@Big_Sinudo) accused Ibas of attempting to deduct N1 billion from each of the state’s 23 local government areas. “Was the assignment to deduct N23 billion?” he asked in a post on X. To many, Ibas’ conduct underlined what they had suspected all along, that the Rivers emergency was less about restoring order than about consolidating political control.

In normal times, the imminent return of a suspended governor after six months in political exile has raised tension among political stakeholders in the state.

Gov. Siminalayi Fubara is due back in office on September 18 at the end of emergency rule, the mood, according to feelers from the state, is anything but… Click link to continue reading.

PDP: 'Bringing Obi to where'? It's not possible - Wike vows

A report by Sahara Reporters widely shared by social media users claimed that FCT minister Nyesom Wike has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure

A post circulating on social media has made fresh speculations regarding the health status of the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The post, which has been viewed by more than 12,000 people, claimed: “Breaking News. Wike Suffers Heart Failure in UK. Presently Battling With His Life.”

Wike new look

Tinubu Vows To Stand By Wike, Amid Tension In Rivers Political Crisis

Wike, serving as the minister of the FCT since 2023, is a key ally of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Legit reports that while Nigerian hospitals battle with inadequate equipment and funding, most of the country’s politicians routinely travel for medical treatment in the United Kingdom (UK).

However, checks by Legit.ng indicate that no other reputable platforms have the report while Wike’s spokesman, Lere Olayinka, is also yet to react to the claim

The same claim about Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), appear here.

Wike, governor of Rivers state from 2015 to 2023, is widely considered a strong ally of President Bola Tinubu.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member supported Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2023 poll. Tinubu eventually won the 2023 presidential election.

Wike was the leader of the G5, a group of then-PDP governors who were aggrieved with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the PDP national leadership at the time.

After his inauguration on May 29, 2023, Tinubu appointed Wike as the minister of the FCT, Abuja, apparently as a reward for his support to the president during the election.

Lately, users put up posts on social media claiming that Wike suffered a heart failure and is in grave danger of dying. But how true is this? We probed..

Wike ‘away from duty’

We discovered that the story about Wike’s alleged severe illness was published by Nigerian blog, Sahara Reporters. The media outlet said sources privy to the minister’s health status informed it that Wike has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and is currently under medical management in the UK. Apart from that, no such articles from any credible news outlet.

Also, we found that it has been a while since Wike appeared at public events. Wike was last seen at the flag off of the emergency rehabilitation and dualisation of the Karu Interchange, Customs Clinic Junction road, Abuja, on Wednesday, September 3.

The video and photographs can be seen below:

He has been represented at two public events since that time, fuelling rumours that he might be out of the country for medical reasons. On Thursday, September 4, chief of staff Chidi Amadi stood in for Wike at the flag off the distribution of fertilisers at 50 percent subsidised rates to farmers across the six area councils of the FCT.

Similarly, on Thursday, September 11, Mariya Mahmud Bunkure, the minister of state for the FCT, represented Wike at the Association of Paediatric Surgeons of Nigeria (APSON’s) 24th annual general meeting (AGM) and scientific conference in Abuja. Vanguard noted Mariya filling in for Wike at the event.

Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, who is vocal on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), and is often swift to quash certain reports related to his principal, has yet to issue a statement to debunk or confirm the development.

EXPOSED: How Dangote Enslaves Nigerians, Selling Cheaper Petrol For Togo – Importers Revealed

Dangote slashes petrol price as crude market softens

Some fuel importers and depot owners have raised alarm over what they describe as a double standard by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, accusing the company of selling petrol to international traders at ₦65 cheaper per litre than the price offered to local marketers.

The Depot and Petroleum Product Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) claimed the practice was undermining competition and putting local businesses at risk.

Dangote To Retire As Dangote Sugar Chair

The Executive Secretary of DAPPMAN, Olufemi Adewole, revealed that many of their members had bought petrol from Lomé, Togo, where international traders supplied at prices lower than those quoted by Dangote to Nigerian marketers.

“Dangote is selling to international traders at ₦65 cheaper than what he is selling to us. In some instances, we were able to buy from those people and still bring it to Nigeria. They will take the product to Lomé, claiming they are buying large quantities,” Adewole said in an interview with The PUNCH.

He added that repeated requests for supply allocations had either been ignored or tied to conditions that make business unprofitable, forcing importers to look elsewhere.

Marketers Demand Discounts
Adewole further argued that Dangote’s pricing model placed domestic players at a disadvantage.

“Dangote has to give us a discount for freight cost and other expenses between his jetty and our depots. Without this, we can’t sell competitively. People will continue to import if it’s cheaper abroad,” he insisted.

On his part, the President of PETROAN, Billy Gillis-Harry, backed DAPPMAN’s position, confirming that the refinery’s products were indeed cheaper in Togo than in Nigeria.

“Exactly, DAPPMAN said the correct thing. It is true. We don’t want to be saying everything. But the way things are going, one day we will say everything,” Gillis-Harry said.

Dangote Refinery Reacts, Denies Claims
However, in a swift response, the Dangote Refinery dismissed the allegations, suggesting that DAPPMAN was behind the recent labour tension with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), which accused the company of anti-union practices.

“We now know who is behind NUPENG. Our free delivery starts Monday,” A spokesman for the refinery told journalists on Sunday.

The official also questioned why marketers now sourced fuel from Lomé, asking, “When did they stop buying from Russia and Malta?”

Adewole accused the refinery of using strategically timed price cuts to destabilise the market. He recalled that Alhaji Aliko Dangote once vowed to slash prices whenever importers brought in cargoes, forcing competitors into financial distress.

He described Dangote’s repeated reductions as “calculated moves to stifle competition” rather than patriotic interventions, noting that international buyers were given better deals than Nigerians.

Naija News reports that DAPPMAN insisted that Nigeria’s downstream sector cannot rely on a single refinery.

“While we welcome the Dangote refinery as a major infrastructure project, its contribution has peaked at only 30 to 35 per cent of national demand. The balance continues to be supplied by responsible petroleum product marketers who import and distribute under strict regulation,” Adewole stressed.

READ ALSO  Did Tinubu's Minister Wike Suffer Heart Failure in UK, Fighting for His Life? Here is What We Know

He further criticised the refinery’s “free delivery” scheme, claiming marketers were forced to lift 25% of allocations using only Dangote-owned trucks at commercial rates, which added hidden costs.

Refinery to Roll Out CNG Trucks, Slash Prices
Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery confirmed that it would begin deploying compressed natural gas (CNG) powered trucks on Monday as part of its logistics-free distribution initiative.

The company said the rollout would reduce the gantry price to ₦820 per litre, with the expectation of lower pump prices across key states.

Naija News reports that the pricing row comes amid a brewing face-off between Dangote and NUPENG, which recently threatened to embark on strike, accusing the refinery of blocking drivers from joining unions.

DAPPMAN said while the matter did not directly involve them, they were “alarmed by the tone and escalation of the crisis,” warning that the dispute could worsen fuel supply stability in a fragile downstream market.
