Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, has unveiled plans for free Wi-Fi across the nation’s airports, along with onboard Wi-Fi for local flights, to enhance air travel and communications within and outside the airport.

Keyamo, who gave the hint in a recent interview attributed the absence of airport Wi-Fi to bureaucratic hurdles between the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), which he swiftly resolved by allocating Wi-Fi provision to NAMA.

Collaborating with the Ministry of Communication, the minister says, he is ensuring imminent access to complimentary Wi-Fi at airports, with discussions underway with international firms for in-flight Wi-Fi.

This initiative according to Keyamo aligns with global aviation standards, enhancing passenger connectivity during flights.

The minister said, to expedite, a three-month trial of free satellite-based Wi-Fi is proposed.

The government’s dedication to upgrading travel experiences and technological infrastructure in Nigeria’s aviation sector is evident in this move, aiming to modernise and improve nationwide connectivity.
