Rep Member, Akin Rotimi Appoints 85 Aides
Member, representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency One, Hon. Akin Rotimi has said he chose to visit his Constituency every month inorder to deepen representation and engagements with his people.
The federal lawmaker also hinted that he has appointed 85 Legislative Aides,including 26 Persons With Disabilities
Speaking during the Retreat and Presentation of Appointment Letters to his aides in Ikole-Ekiti with the theme: “Building A Team That Leaves No One Behind.” Hon Rotimi said the people have complained in the past about legislators being very far away from them.
The Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs equally noted that the appointment of the legislative aides will serve as a channel for feedback mechanism from his constituents at the grassroots level.
“We are changing that narrative. I am home every month, I have ward tours, stakeholders engagements. Now, I have taken it a step further to take that financial burden of engaging 85 people.”
The retreat witnessed various presentations by resource persons on sub-topics such as; “Representative Grassroots Intelligence”, “Communication Strategies” and “Constituency Outreach.”
He stated that the move is geared towards engaging the people at the grassroots level in participatory governance and representation redefined.
The lawmaker said that the appointed Focal Persons for PWDs is to recognize the importance of PWDs and ensure accessibility and representation for all members of his constituencyl adding that they will play a crucial role in advocating for the rights and needs of PWDs within his constituency.
He reiterated the commitment of the 10th House of Reps to deepen grassroots engagements and give meaning to the people’s mandate through effective representation.
“The 10th House of Representatives has it as our agenda to deepen grassroots engagements and constituency outreach. We are in a recess now, the House leadership took a strategic decision to go on a recess for Ramadan and Easter.
“What you are seeing here is the demonstration of our resolve not to be far from Nigerians, to give meaning to their mandate, to give meaning to representation. We had about 85 people we have engaged at the grassroots level. We have legislative advisers, legislative assistants, people with disabilities, contact focal persons at the grassroots in every single ward.
“So, what we had today is representation. It is the fact that we believe in representative democracy, we believe in the fact that they should be participatory governance. We had this session to build the capacity of grassroots stakeholders that have been appointed to be able to participate in what we are doing in the house of representatives.
“It’s really about representation redefined. I believe very much in participatory governance, people at the grassroots taking a leap and being involved in issues that affects them. I have focal persons for PWDs in all the 24 wards. I have legislative assistants in every ward to ensure that we have a critical channel through which feedbacks comes and we can also reach them”.

Japanese conservative politician Sanae Takaichi on Thursday announced her intention to run for the leadership of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), a contest that could make her the country’s first female prime minister, Kyodo News reported.
Takaichi, a former internal affairs minister and close ally of slain ex-premier Shinzo Abe, revealed her bid during a meeting with former Prime Minister Taro Aso, now the LDP’s supreme adviser.
“What is needed now is politics that can turn our anxieties about life and the future into hope,” the 64-year-old told reporters. She is scheduled to outline her policies at a press conference on Friday.
Takaichi is considered one of the leading contenders in the Oct. 4 party election, alongside Farm Minister Shinjiro Koizumi. A Jiji Press poll of 2,000 respondents showed Koizumi ahead with 23.8% support, followed by Takaichi at 21%.
Other expected candidates include Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi, former Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and former Economic Security Minister Takayuki Kobayashi.
The LDP leadership vote was originally scheduled for 2027, the end of Shigeru Ishiba’s three-year term, but was moved up after Ishiba announced his resignation on Sept. 7 following his coalition’s defeat in July’s upper house election.
While stepping down as party president, Ishiba will remain prime minister until the LDP chooses a new leader – a role that in Japan’s political system is effectively equivalent to the premiership.
The atmosphere in River State has significantly stabilized following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to lift the six-month state of emergency that had been in place.
Although the immediate tension has eased, the challenges that Fubara will face from the state assembly and local government are looming large.

Tinubu, in a statement he signed yesterday, declared that the emergency rule would end at midnight, clearing the way for Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Nma Odu and members of the State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule to resume duties today.
The president said he saw no reason for the state of emergency to continue a day longer.

For Fubara, the battle is not over; he’s not happy, and things won’t favour him. The governor would be in his office with folded arms, eating and refreshing, but he wouldn’t have governing power.
