SHAME… Inside Delta secondary school where students have no chairs to sit

The condition of Uwheru Grammar School in Delta State, as described, is deeply concerning. It’s disheartening to learn that many students do not have chairs to sit on, classrooms lack basic amenities like window shutters and chalkboards, and essential structures are in a state of disrepair. The fact that some buildings have had their roofs blown off by wind adds to the urgency of the situation.
The emotional response of HRM Simpson Obruche II, the Odion R’Ode of Uwheru Kingdom, reflects the gravity of the issue. His call for action, particularly directed towards the Old Students Association of Uwheru Grammar School, highlights the need for collective efforts to address the dire state of the school.
Education is a fundamental right, and every child deserves access to a safe and conducive learning environment. The dilapidated condition of Uwheru Grammar School not only affects the quality of education but also the well-being and future prospects of the students attending the school.
It’s imperative that relevant authorities, including government agencies and educational stakeholders, intervene swiftly to rehabilitate the school and provide the necessary infrastructure and resources for effective teaching and learning. Additionally, community support and collaboration, as advocated by HRM Simpson Obruche II, can play a crucial role in revitalizing the school and restoring it to an acceptable standard.
He appealed to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education to look into Uwheru’s dilemma, saying that the people love education.
“I know Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori is a listening governor who has good intentions for all Deltans, I appeal to him on behalf of the Uwheru people to help us bring back Uwheru Grammar School to a satisfactory standard.”
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, did not respond to calls and messages sent to her mobile phone.
However, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon said: “As a government, our governor wants more for Deltans; he wants a conducive learning environment for all our children, and Uwheru Grammar School is no exception.
“If, as you said, the school is in bad shape, the government will urgently look at it to carry out renovations to ensure that facilities are replaced for our people to enjoy a befitting learning environment.”
