 How Supreme Court validates Dapo Abiodun’s election

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has received affirmation of his election by the Supreme Court.

The case was brought before the court by the Peoples Democratic Party and Ladi Adebutu, who requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission conduct fresh elections in 99 polling units where elections were allegedly cancelled.

Earlier, on November 24, 2023, the Appeal Court in Lagos Division, had affirmed Abiodun’s re-election in a split decision. Justice Joseph Ikyegh delivered the majority judgment dismissing the appeal filed by PDP and its governorship candidate.

In the recent ruling, the lead judgment was read by Justice Tijani Abubakar, who also dismissed the appeal.

This ruling has finally put an end to the legal battle over the election outcome.
