Arabinrin Aderonke Ogunleye-Bello, the Executive Director of FAME Foundation, has expressed her support for the Nigerian Super Eagles in their ongoing quest to win the African Cup of Nations in Abidjan Cote d’Ivoire.

The Multiple Award-winning Investigative Journalist and former editor is confident that the team can build on their current momentum and defeat Ivory Coast at home.

The Africa Cup of Nations will see a true heavyweight clash as hosts Ivory Coast take on Nigeria in Group A on Thursday. And one of the football stakeholders has charged the Nigerian team to conquer their opponents.

Les Éléphants started AFCON off well, notching a 2-0 win over Guinea-Bissau in the tournament’s opening match.

The Super Eagles were stunned by Equatorial Guinea and needed a Victor Osimhen goal to come back for a 1-1 draw.

That leaves Nigeria in need of a result — and possibly even a win — to avoid a must-win situation during the final round of group-stage matches. A loss would leave a star-studded side on the brink of elimination.

“Super Eagles need to go out against their remaining opponents and conquer irrespective of their challenges, to show the rest of the African team that we are still the giants of Africa. They should work together as a team and avoid distractions,” said Arabinrin Aderonke.

“I think the team needs to excuse themselves from social media distraction and focus on the remaining games and not be involved in any shenanigan and all that. Social media has never helped anybody in society and that is why they should go all out to fight and ignore any forms of distraction.

Meanwhile, a win would guarantee a place in the knockout stages, and a draw in Group A’s other match would secure the top spot in the section.
