Woman gives birth on New Year's Day after nine miscarriages

A mum who endured nine heart-breaking miscarriages told of her joy after she gave birth to a baby girl – just 36 minutes into the new year.

Navdeep Kaur, 35, said her new daughter was the “best surprise” after the 7lbs 9oz tot was born at 12.36am on Monday, January 1. The healthcare support assistant has polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), which means her ovaries produce an abnormal amount of male sex hormones called androgens.

Women with the condition carry an increased risk of having miscarriages and stillbirths.

After years of setbacks, Navdeep and her husband Iqbal Singh Kanwal had “given up” hope of having another child to join their daughter Jaskirat, ten. But she felt her family had received the ‘best gift’ ever after their daughter arrived at Walsall Manor Hospital, West Mids, early on New Year’s Day.
