The Lagos State Government on Saturday announced the cancellation of the 50% transport fare discount on all modes of public transport systems which was implemented in response to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive on August 2, 2023.

In a public Notice on Saturday, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) said the reversion begins from today, November 5.

“The 50% rebate in transport fare in the regulated transport system in Lagos ends on Sunday”LAMATA said in the ststement.

It went further to inform commuters that from Monday, November 6, 2023, transport fare will return to the pre-August 2nd 2023 rate.

The PAPERS recalls that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on August 2, 2023, as part of palliative measures on transportation directed a 50 percent cut on all public regulated transportation modes. He also urged all other operators to do likewise and slash their fares by at least 25 percent.

It is yet unclear whether the new directive to revert to the old rates will also affect other private operators.
