“What does Keyamo know about Aviation and aerospace?”

“Why is Dele Alake in Solid minerals?”
These are some of the common questions asked since President Tinubu dropped his ministerial designates. While these questions are valid, it is important to state the following:
At this high level of governance, Professional knowledge is near useless. To be a MINISTER/COMMISSIONER of the government, management skills, decision making skills and conflict resolution skills is priority and the most important ingredient to success.
The job is to harness the knowledge of the various professionals in each field to achieve success.
Let me break it down. The best doctors don’t make the best Chief Medical Directors. Management at that level doesn’t require medical knowledge or experience, management at that level requires purely managerial and decision-making skills which many doctors are not equipped with. Countries like the US realized this and appointed a Nurse as “Surgeon General”.
The financial sector (Banks) hacked this formula a long time ago.
It should be considered an added advantage to have both professional and managerial skills combined but It is NOT important to possess the professional knowledge in a specific field before becoming the decision maker in that field. This is the practice in civilized societies.
Keyamo doesn’t need to be a pilot to be successful as the Minister of Aviation. What is most important is his ability to manage people and his experience at harnessing the skills of others to achieve a specific purpose.
He is technically the CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER who makes the “informed decisions”. The same goes for Dele Alake and every other minister delegate selected by the president.
The best Minister of works we have had in this country is a Lawyer. The best Minister of Transportation we have had in this country holds a BA in English Literature.
Keyamo is a round peg in a round hole! Alake is a Square peg in a Square hole and Oyetola is a square peg in a square hole!!!
