The police in Edo State have arrested a female ex-banker, Gift Igbinosun, 35, for allegedly defrauding Messrs. John Onuora Nnamdi and Obasoqie Henry Osagieduwa of over N14.9 million in Edo.

Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), yesterday while parading the suspect, who was sacked about two years ago by the management of Keystone Bank, defrauded the victims on the pretext of assisting them to get new naira notes.

Nwabuzor stated that the suspect paraded herself as a member of staff of Keystone Bank, and fraudulently obtained N7,350,000 from Nnamdi.

He said: “The suspect also paraded herself as staff member of Keystone Bank, and fraudulently obtained N7,600,000 from Osagieduwa.

“The victims gave the female ex-banker the old naira notes, with the hope that as she was collecting the huge money, she would replace them with new naira notes, not knowing that she was no longer working for the bank”

Edo PPRO also disclosed that investigation had been concluded on the alleged fraud, while the former banker would soon be charged to court.

Igbinosun, later in an interview with reporters, stated that she was earlier giving Nnamdi mint currency and he would inturn give her commission, but she later could not meet up, for undisclosed reasons, thereby owing him.

The suspect claimed that she returned N2.5 million to Osagieduwa, remaining a balance of N5.1 million.
