Oby Ezekwesili, former minister of education, has challenged Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to provide evidence that the demolition of unfit structures at Alaba market is not a political attack on Igbos.

“Governor, please immediately publish details of each destroyed building and the dateline of Due Process rules that were exhausted by your Government before it was “removed,” Ezekwesili said. “It will be wise for the Governor to take this counsel on Transparency and Full Disclosure since it would provide evidence to the public that this is not a vengeful political attack against the predominant Igbo community in Alaba Market.”

Ezekwesili posed the question to the Lagos governor in a tweet on Tuesday, while also warning President Bola Tinubu to be careful in brewing “terribly toxic atmosphere against fellow citizens”.

“Let me also use this opportunity to really again advise the @followlasg and its cheerleaders including @officialABAT to be careful in persisting to brew a terribly toxic atmosphere against fellow citizens since before, during and after the 2023 elections,”Ezekwesili said.

Ezekwesili’s intervention comes as the Lagos State government embarked on the demolition of distressed buildings in Nigeria’s largest electronics market, the Alaba International Market.

Some traders in the market on Sunday alleged that the state government did not give any prior notice before starting demolition. But Lagos State Building Control Agency general manager, Gbolahan Oki, said 17 buildings in the Ojo Local Government Area where the market is situated have been assessed and approved for demolition.

President Tinubu Escaped Death, Coup

At least sixteen high-ranking military officers have been taken into custody as part of a sweeping investigation into allegations of a conspiracy aimed at overthrowing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, as reported by SaharaReporters.

The detainees include officers with ranks spanning from Captain to Brigadier General and were apprehended in a meticulously coordinated operation led by the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), along with various other security agencies. These arrests took place across multiple locations within the country, indicating a broad and systematic crackdown on potential threats to the government.

In the wake of these significant arrests, the Defence Headquarters initially attempted to downplay the situation, characterising the detentions as components of a “routine military exercise” that was addressing “issues of indiscipline and breach of service regulations.” However, insiders within military circles have cast doubt on this official narrative, suggesting that the explanation appears to be a deliberate smokescreen designed to prevent public alarm and maintain stability within the armed forces and the nation at large. This situation highlights the growing tensions and complexities surrounding the current political climate in Nigeria.

“The 16 officers were planning a coup. The military authorities were just being diplomatic in the statement released by the spokesperson,” a senior DIA official was quoted as saying. “They had begun holding secret meetings to overthrow the President and announce a military government.”

Official Statement
In its earlier release, the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, said the officers’ detention followed internal investigations into misconduct and disobedience.

“Investigations have revealed that their grievances stemmed largely from perceived career stagnation caused by repeated failure in promotion examinations, among other issues,” Gusau stated. “Some of the apprehended officers had been under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial. Their conduct was deemed incompatible with the standards of military service.”

Foiled Plot and Security Concerns
However, insiders insisted that the arrests were linked to an attempted coup that was foiled after intelligence agencies intercepted communications and meeting plans.

A top source disclosed that the conspirators planned to execute the coup during the October 1 Independence Day parade, targeting President Tinubu and other senior officials in attendance.

“Yes, they were arrested for planning to stage a coup and take over the government,” the source confirmed. “That was why the Independence Day parade marking the country’s 65th anniversary was abruptly cancelled. Intelligence indicated they intended to strike during the event.”

The source further revealed that the National Security Adviser and service chiefs advised the presidency to suspend the parade after credible intelligence showed that the conspirators had positioned armed men for the assault.

Historical Context
Nigeria has a long and turbulent history with military coups. Since independence in 1960, the country has witnessed five successful coups and several abortive ones, each leaving deep scars on its democratic evolution.

The recent development has reignited public anxiety over growing discontent within the military ranks amid worsening economic hardship and security challenges across the country.

Oborevwori Performs Groundbreaking For Reconstruction Of Warri–Sapele–Benin Road

…Says Project Symbolises Renewed Hope Partnership

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday, performed the groundbreaking for the reconstruction of the Warri–Sapele–Benin Dual Carriageway in Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas, declaring the project a symbol of renewed collaboration between the Federal and State Governments for the benefit of Nigerians.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori said the project represented “another major step forward in the infrastructure renewal drive of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government, in collaboration with the Delta State Government.”

“The section we are flagging off “covers a dual carriageway with reinforced concrete pavement, expanded shoulders, and extensive stormwater drainage systems, all designed to provide durability and ensure the safety of road users.”

Governor Oborevwori noted that the initiative underscored the gains of synergy between the two tiers of government, emphasizing that development becomes faster when governments work together in the interest of the people.

“Although this road is a federal route, the users are Deltans and Nigerians, and their safety and comfort are what matter most to us,” he said.

He lamented the hardship long suffered by commuters and transporters on the Warri–Sapele–Benin route due to its deplorable condition, noting that the reconstruction would enhance mobility, reduce travel time, and spur economic growth.

He said: “Beyond these economic benefits, the project will also strengthen security. Criminals often exploit bad roads to commit crimes. Once completed, this highway will make movement safer and improve the response of security agencies.”

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Delta one of the safest states in Nigeria through strategic investments in infrastructure, peace, and security.

He also promised that the requests of the people of Uvwie Kingdom partaining the Mother and Child Hospital and provision of 500KVA transformer, would be looked into.

“At over sixty years of age, I am not here for personal gain but to leave lasting legacies that generations will remember me for. By the time I leave office, I want Deltans to proudly say, ‘Oborevwori did this, Oborevwori did that,’” he said before officially flagging off the project from Effurun Roundabout by spare parts market to after Ohore, before Ometan Bridge.

Atiba Varsity Condemns Rejection Of NECO Results By Institituions

The Founder and President of Atiba University Oyo, James Adesokan Ojebode, PhD, ALA(CSN) JP has expressed deep concern over reports that some Federal universities have allegedly refused to accept the recently released National Examinations Council (NECO) results from admission seekers.

In a statement issued in Oyo, Ojebode described the development as “unjust, discriminatory, and inconsistent with Nigeria’s commitment to inclusive and equitable education.” He lamented that many candidates who initially applied with Awaiting Results were later denied admission after NECO released their results — a situation he termed “a denial of the fundamental right to education and a reflection of administrative insensitivity.”

Ojebode therefore called on the Federal Ministry of Education, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and NECO to urgently intervene and ensure that all affected universities reopen their admission portals to allow candidates upload their results. He noted that “education must remain a tool for empowerment, not exclusion.”

He further emphasized that proper coordination among examination and admission bodies is crucial to maintaining the credibility of NECO, the integrity of Nigeria’s admission process, and the public’s confidence in the education system.

Cameroon Prophet Reveals Who Will Win Nigeria's Presidential Election

Prophet Boris Jedidiah, a prominent cleric from Cameroon, has made a significant announcement regarding the upcoming 2027 presidential election in Nigeria.

He claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory is assured by divine intervention.
