“Political I.O.U.”: Tambuwal Accuses Tinubu in Fresh Attack

Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has raised concerns about President Bola Tinubu’s alleged use of the judiciary and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to pressure state governors into defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

During a statement made on his birthday, Tambuwal accused the presidency of manipulating judicial processes to encourage governors to align with the federal government.

He suggested that this strategy is designed to shield Tinubu from scrutiny and enhance his chances of securing a second term in office.

Tambuwal also pointed out the existence of a “Political I.O.U.” between Tinubu and certain governors who were reinstated despite ongoing legal challenges.

‘This clearly means that the Supreme Court is compromised. Even where there were clear cases of injustice, it was clearly negotiated, and the intervention of the presidential movement led them to continue,” he said.

“That is not democracy. That is not politics but pure intimidation and harassment and such acts undermines Nigeria’s democratic principles.”

Speaking on his own defection, Tambuwal noted that while he defected as a governor, he did not join the ruling party under President Muhammadu Buhari due to his disagreement with the administration’s policies.

Instead, he said he joined the opposition to strengthen democratic governance and resist attempts to manipulate political outcomes for personal gain.

He, however, warned that current governors defecting purely to align with the centre should not expect election results to be predetermined.

“Nobody is going to write any result this time around. Nobody. We are ready and prepared to go through an electoral process that must be free and fair, and any attempt to manipulate it will be resisted lawfully and constitutionally,” Tambuwal insisted..
