Bandits Kill 75-Year-Old Woman in Fresh Niger Community Attack

A 75-year-old woman, Amina Abu-Shaki, wife of the Sarkin Noma of Kabe Community in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, has reportedly been shot dead by bandits, as reported by Daily Trust.
The woman was said to have died on the spot after she was shot in her hiding place while fleeing during an attack on Kabe Community by bandits at about 8pm on Tuesday.
Mallam Awwalu, a resident of the community, told Daily Trust that the attackers, who came in large numbers, invaded the community around 8pm on Tuesday, firing sporadically and forcing residents to flee to safety.
He said the 75-year-old Amina was sighted along the route the attackers followed while leaving the community after the attack and was shot dead instantly.
“The terrorists invaded our community around 8pm on Tuesday. They burgled many shops and carted away foodstuffs and valuables. Thank God they did not abduct anyone, but one elderly woman, about 75 years old, was shot and died on the spot. She was shot where she was hiding. She was sighted in the bush and was shot,” he said.
Awwalu added that many villages and communities in the area have been deserted due to renewed attacks by bandits.
Meanwhile, four people were also killed during an attack on Damala village in the same local government area on Friday.
Sources said the attackers invaded Damala village at about 8pm, shot four people dead, and forced other residents to flee their homes.
One of the sources disclosed that the attackers also made away with cattle and other livestock belonging to residents.
He added that worship centres and several residential houses were set ablaze during the attack.
The Disaster Officer of Borgu Local Government Area, Musa Saidu, confirmed the killing of four people in Damala village.
Bago orders communities around Kainji lake to vacate ahead of security operation
The Niger State Government has ordered residents of villages around Kainji National Park to vacate their homes within two months to allow security operatives flush out the terrorists in the area.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago gave the order when he visited the Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Muhammad Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, at his palace in New Bussa to sympathise with him and the Borgu Emirate over the recent terrorist attack on Kasuwan Daji market, where no fewer than 42 people, including traders, were killed.
The governor said the resettlement of residents had become necessary to avoid collateral damage, adding that his administration, in collaboration with the federal government, was determined to clear the forest, flush out criminals using the Kainji Lake area as a camp, and make the land habitable again.
The Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Muhammad Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, pledged to work closely with relevant authorities to identify and prosecute informants in the emirate.
